SHOUTING

SO EASY TO READ RIGHT?

Stop names are read by passengers, on screens and out loud by text to speech. In capitals they are harder to read, look like an error message, and get spelled out letter by letter by screen readers. Most of them come straight from a scheduling system that was designed for a line printer.

The law

More than half of a feed's stop names, or of its route long names, are written in capitals. Names under 5 characters are let off as acronyms, and scripts without upper and lower case never count.

How to get pardoned

Write names the way the signs on the street do.
